The writer was a retired Army officer. He writes his experience of his commendable service to a sacred institution. Writer emphasizes the role of a junior commander to army. He writes:
1971 Indo-Pak war became a critic to army and joined services. Junior officers were more of what disgruntled by the actions of senior officers but there it is recommended that a junior has to become a senior officer one day as it is a circle so it is expected out of them not to repeat the same mistakes and a better system is awaited. Army is a corporate body as it consists of all kind of men so just hanging on a certain group is not justice. The loss of one wing of country over shadowed flawless showing in Dec 1971.
The writer ahead discusses some common traits of commanders.That include integrity, courage, will power, energy and professionalism. Commanders are sincere to their job and give importance to their task above all. Courage is a Hallmark of commanders which gives a thrust for making way out of contemporary issues.Will power is fuel to meet success like it is said if you can't run you crawl but don't let your mind blocks control you.
Professionalism makes a commander gem to the nation and it comes with experience and toil. Like Napoleon said "my soldiers follow me not because I am brave but because I am well-read."
Leader should set examples. He can't order anyone for something which he can't do. A commander should be a master of all trades. He should be self-disciplined first and then work on discipline of others. A commander needs to know the tactics to make the led walk along to the destinies. This can come directly from education, broad outlook, integrity of character, thinking ahead, physical fitness, Esprit de Corps and professionalism. A commander should know the art of man management. When being praised he should not forget that it is because of his under command and he should pass on it onto his men. Junior leaders are much more attached to their men so they must share their hardships as well. Also a commander should keep an eye on what his men eat, wear and their turnout. As soon as the man trusts the sincerity of his officer he will come out with his problems and hence much of the problems are solved likewise.
Training is blood for a commander in veins. As said sweat in peace saves blood in war. Well trained officers and their under command are solution to every military issue. Maintenance of the aim is way forward to success.
Discipline not only includes drill in the army but maintaining war discipline is above all. Decisions and orders can never be questioned. Every one should know his circle from which he is not supposed to move out. Good man management is a characteristic of a commander. And manners are the only language of civilized people. Stickiness to the religion defines the character which indeed sets the profile of any person hereafter and sets a direction to eternal success and right alley. (less)
