We're getting wired, we're going mobile, what's next? : fresh ideas for educational technology planning
Bard Williams is a career changer. In 2011 he left a lucrative career in high-tech marketing in a Fortune 500 company to pursue a high-touch career in massage therapy. He is a licensed and certified practitioner (yes, he passed the MBLEx!) and owner and managing partner of the Silicon Valley Massage Therapy Group (SVMTG) in San Jose, CA, a thriving onsite corporate and event massage practice. In early 2015, he began teaching MBLEx review courses and has assisted hundreds of test-takers in improving their scores.
He?s also an educator. He began his professional career in public education, teaching middle school and college level science and serving as a large school district?s coordinator of instructional technology. He earned a doctorate in education from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Williams went on to join Apple?s Education Division where he combined his love for teaching and his passion for technology. Later, he built a marketing company, Techthree Marketing & Consulting, from the ground up working with companies like Adobe, Apple, AOL, Corel, HP, Palm and more. After several years as an entrepreneur, Bard rejoined corporate America as the Director of Marketing at TiVo, Inc.
Yearning for the entrepreneurial life again, he left TiVo, went to massage school at San Jose?s National Holistic Institute (www.nhi.edu), and started Silicon Valley Massage Therapy Group (www.svmassagetherapy.com) with two of his classmates. In the years since, the team has grown and now, in addition to becoming one of the best-known massage therapy businesses in the area, is a leading provider of NCBTMB-certified professional development for practitioners.
Up for change and a chance to continue to work in education and training, Bard joined Silicon Valley luxury real estate company Alain Pinel Realtors and served as their Vice President of Education and Development at Alain Pinel Realtors in Silicon Valley. In 2019, APR was acquired by Compass and Bard now serves as National Sr. Manager of Learning and Development.
He is the author of more than 14 books, including the bestselling ?Educator?s Podcast Guide? and ?Palm Handheld Computers: A Complete Resource for Classroom Teachers?, ?We?re Getting Wired, We?re Going Mobile, What?s Next?? and IDG?s award-winning ?Internet for Teachers?, and more than 300 articles on technology, wellness and massage therapy.
When he?s not working he recharges his energy by speaking at conferences and events, teaching, writing posts for the well-read WELLNESS FOCUS blog (www.svmassagetherapy.com/blog), ghost-writing for several high-tech blogs, and taking advantage of the sunny days at his home in Northern California.
